The Imposter Syndrome
This is a psychological occurrence where we doubt our skills in fear of being seen as fraud. If you feel this is you, we're in the same boat. 🚢
My Experience
Here's my experience with it when running my first business.
I was selling painting services while having 0 experience in business and in painting.
The business
So my painting business was a franchise of a 55+-year-old company. This company's goal is to teach students to run their own businesses.
While selling to clients, it felt weird because I wasn't sure if I was able to deliver quality service. Never painted before
It felt dishonest to tell the clients that I'll be promising them good results.
The only reasons I was able to run the business are the following:
Paint training by the company
Sales training by the company
Sales coach assigned to me.
I had the proper help to answer all my questions.
How I was feeling
I was still doubting myself hard though. I wasn't very confident. There was so much to figure out and I was expected to deliver quality service.
But I still pulled through by:
Taking it one step at a time
Learning the things I didn't know
Asking many questions to my coach & peers.
I ended up making a decent profit that year with great feedback!
Morale of the story
To all who feel uncomfortable trying new things, I'm telling you:
EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT
Stop doubting your capabilities.
Self-doubt is normal
Whether your goal is to:
Start a business
Be an influencer
Start a new position
First-time relationships
There will always be self-doubt. Your goal is to see past it and
BUILD UP THAT CONFIDENCE
Recap
Do what's necessary to
Take it one step at a time
Learn the things you don't know
Ask questions to the ppl around you
By doing so, you slowly build up confidence and eliminate that imposter syndrome you're feeling.
That’s all for now!
